Vanuatu Survey

South Pacific: Pilot Survey

In July 2015, we joined TBA21 Academy on expedition to Vanuatu – a group of some 80 islands located in the South Pacific Ocean, with rich marine life and numerous active volcanoes.

The expedition aims to highlight the concerns of globally observable change of climate resulting in recurrent and increasingly violent hurricanes, the instability of land and sea scape - such as the shifting of tectonic plates in the region, as well as man’s impact on seashores through construction and infrastructure.

The recently more noticeable rising of sea levels affects the island of Torres (Lataw) in particular, where inhabitants had to move inland starting in 2005, making them the first ever registered climate change refugees.
