Great Detached Reef Survey
Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea Expedition: Survey 24
The far northern section of the Great Barrier Reef truly is the final, wild frontier of this wonder of the natural world.
The Great Detached Reef is a large complex of several reefs on an older fossil surface. The reef features the breathtaking walls and huge pelagic fish that the Far North Section of the Great Barrier Reef is renowned for. Of particular note on this reef are dive spots called Manta Wall, a place we'll be looking for graceful Mantas and Camel Back, 2 pinnacles that provide shelter for a huge variety of fish. Being so remote, this area is also home to plenty of big sharks which keep things interesting for divers.
