Flinders Reef Survey

Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea Expedition: Survey 5
The Flinders Reef system covers more than 1,200 square kilometres in the Coral Sea, it's found around 220km due east of Cairns.

The topography of the Flinders Reefs is spectatcular; it varies from arrays of pinnacles to shallow coral gardens, from a 1,000 metre long wall to seamounts that rise from the ocean depths. Many large pelagics call this area home. Whilst here we swam with hundreds of creatures including Maori Wrasse, Dogtooth Tuna, Barracuda and both Grey Reef and Whitetip Sharks. Flinders Reef is a very popular diving destination and rewards those willing to travel out into the Coral Sea.
