Davies Reef Survey

Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea Expedition: Survey 7
Davies Reef is a popular mid-shelf reef located just over 100kms north-east of Townsville. It is one of the few reefs inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park that has it's own AIMS Automatic Weather Station (AWS). This weather tower offers a permanent communication link with shore, allowing it to stream all kinds of weather information and real-time video.

There is excellent diving on this site with brilliant walls, deep gutters and huge pinnacles. Plenty of Barracuda can be spotted at the edges of the reef waiting for smaller fish in the currents.
