In the morning, the team surveyed the exposed side of Yonge Reef before shifting south to the Cod Hole for the afternoon. In 1973, Ron and Valerie Taylor first discovered the Cod Hole, and kept it a secret for six years in fear that the Cod would be fished out. Despite the fact that it has been a protected site since the 1980s, numbers have continued to dwindle until recent years for a variety of reasons. Today though we had eight big inquisitive Cod and some massive Coral Trout swimming with us. As the Cod Hole is located in a channel, we saw lots of other pelagic life passing through too including Dogtooth Tuna, Giant Trevally and even a pod of Spinner Dolphins.
