Norbert Englebert

University of Queensland Phd Candidate

Norbert's expertise is in the area of coral reproduction and physiology. His responsibilities lie with monitoring quadrats, sensory equipment and Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPVs). Norbert grew up in the Netherlands, but has recently moved to Australia to start his PhD research at The University of Queensland. His main research interest is the ecology of mesophotic corals, and particularly how these corals manage to survive and reproduce under extreme low-light conditions. In addition, he wants to assess the effects of the changing climate on deep coral reef communities. Norbert has extensive field experience studying deep reef communities in both the Caribbean and the Indo-Pacific, is trained as a molecular biologist, and has completed a MSc thesis in Limnology and Oceanography (completed at the University of Amsterdam). Norbert is a qualified ADAS ROV pilot and TDI technical diver.
